Joseph Alpert of The Alpert Group, LLC and the Housing Development Corporation of Bergen County, developers of the Franklin Lakes Supportive Housing development, consisting of 39 affordable one-bedroom apartments for persons with disabilities at the corner of McCoy Road and Colonial Road.

Franklin Lakes Supportive Housing is designed and constructed to be high-quality housing that blends in with the surrounding neighborhood. Every apartment has a spacious floor plan, hardwood floors, Energy Star appliances, and an in-unit washer and dryer. The development includes an apartment for a live-in manager, offices for property management and social service functions, and a large community building exclusively for resident use with space for recreation, education and social programs. Energy-saving measures and green features are incorporated in the project’s design to foster a healthy living environment and reduce utility costs

The property incorporates special accessibility features that promote ease of living and independence including on-site parking, entrance ramps, and wide hallways and doors. The 20 units on the first floor are handicapped accessible and include enough space to accommodate the turning radius of a wheelchair, wire pulls on all cabinet doors and drawers, knee clearance under sinks, full grab bars at all toilets and showers, higher toilet seats, and hand-held shower sprayers.

The apartments are available for persons with incomes below 60% of Area Median Income. All residents have access to rental subsidies, case management, and linkages to a wide range of support services. Qualified residents will be selected through a lottery system.

Ribbon Cutting

On January 11th 2019 we had our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for McCoy Place!

McCoy Place includes 39 one-bedroom apartments, including 20 units for people with physical disabilities and 19 for those with developmental disabilities. The remaining unit is for the superintendent.

The Housing Development Corporation, a non-profit arm of the Bergen County Housing Authority, and the Domus Corporation celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new senior/veteran housing project, now called the Franklin Street Villa located at 188 Franklin Street, Northvale.

Eight of the 29 units have been set aside for special needs veterans. Of these eights units, three of them are restricted to applicants 55 years of age or older, and three units in which the households are at or below 30% AMI. This modular building was actually built in Scranton, Pennsylvania, by Simplex Homes. It was delivered in 43 boxes and reconstructed on the property here in Northvale in approximately 10 working days.

Funding for this project came from several sources. National Equity Funding (NEF) was the primary Tax Credit Investor. A debt of thanks is owed to the Bergen County Community Development Block Grant, another partner joining in as an additional funding source. TD bank also partnered in the funding on this project with a construction loan.

Emerson Veteran Housing

Groundbreaking:

The Housing Authority of Bergen County and The Housing Development Corporation of Bergen County, in collaboration with the American Legion Post 269, broke ground this morning on the planned veterans’ housing development in Emerson. The finished development will consist of 14 single-story one-bedroom residences, within 7 duplex-style buildings. This design was developed by Arcari & Iovino Architects in connection to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development competition and will be used as a model design for similar housing projects across the country. Funding for the project will come from the NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Housing Development Corporation, and Bergen County HOME. The men and women who have faithfully served our country deserve safe, affordable housing and community support as civilians, especially those who became disabled as a result of their service.
